GTS is now a registered NDTS center

GEO Training STUDIO (GTS) through its serviced apartment called GTS Serviced Apartment is now registered as ‘Syarikat SLDN’ (NDTS Practical Center), meaning it may now enroll apprentices who wish to undertake Chambermaid and/or Senior Chambermaid courses. These courses entitle the participants for SKM (Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia Level 1 and 2).

NDTS stands for National Dual Training System, meaning GTS needs to work with another company who will conduct theory lessons for all the courses it runs. GTS Apartment shall conduct the practical (On-Job-Training) which carries 70% of the program. GTS shall work with DLanguage STUDIO (DLS) for its theory schedule which carries 30% of the program. DLS has much earlier established the theory training system, complete with the syllabus, registered and authorized trainers and flexible schedules to ensure the system works successfully.

GTS can accommodate 20 apprentices at a time. We look forward to registering new students in upcoming SLDN courses sponsored by the Malaysian Government.

GTS is now available in Arau Perlis

GTS has formed a new partnership with Cahaya Darwisy in Arau Perlis. GTS operates as a Training Center registered under The Skills Dept (JPK) as SLDN Training Center. It shall conduct Hospitality and Tourism courses, whereas Darwisy will carry out the practical under SLDN Practical Center and shall support in marketing and managing the business. The first course intended to be carried out shall be English Communication skills, scheduled in June 2012. Language courses carried out by GTS will be assisted by DLanguage STUDIO who has already acquired 10 years of experience in this field. GTS looks forward to working together with Darwisy.

While waiting for the government’s approval for GTS to conduct Sijil Kemahiran Courses, GTS will kick off with events, language and soft skill courses. GTS wishes the Arau Team very best of luck.

GTS first ever job

GTS is glad to be granted the first ever job as Master of Ceremony and entertainment co-ordinator during Skills Malaysia Carnival recently held at Dewan Sg Dua Penang, which was jointly organized by Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran (JPK) Northern Region and NCIA (Northern Corridor Implementation Agency). ‘Job Welldone’.. that was JPK’s remark after the event went through successfully with targeted 5000 audience. GTS would like to thank all staff and parties involved to help us carry out the duty given.

GTS is now registered as SLDN Industry Center

GTS is now registered under The Skills Department of The Human Resource Ministry to conduct Hospitality and Tourism on-job-training courses. Courses which have been registered so far are Chambermaid, Senior Chambermaid, Nature Guide & Tourist Guide Level 3 and Tourist Guide Level 3.

On the other hand, GTS has also opened up GTS Apartment for daily rent of RM250 and as a practical center for its Chambermaid courses. Click here for more details of this apartment.

GTS is currently planning to register with the Tourism Ministry for the licensing rights of its Tourist Guide courses. This will take place in March 2012 when GTS has fulfill the obligation to raise its paid up capital to at least RM200,000 as required by the ministry. Paid up capital of GTS currently stands at RM170,000.

The future plan (ie 2013) of GTS is to register with The Human Resource Ministry to allow soft skill courses (approved by HRDF) to be conducted.

Long way to go for soft skills

GTS intends to eventually register with PSMB (Pembangunan Sumber Manusia Berhad) to carry out soft skill training courses besides tourism courses. However, this is a long way to go as GTS hasn’t recorded any track records yet in this field.

Until GTS is ready, ie having 1 year track record of conducting in-house courses, the duty of registration with PSMB is best carried out by DLanguage STUDIO who has been a player in training fields since the last 10 years. DLS has already established its registration with JPK (Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran Malaysia), also under Human Resource Ministry and is currently conducting Hospitality (SKM – Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia) courses under full support of the government.

GTS has only 1 vision now, ie to be recognized by The Ministry of Tourism as ILP (Institut Latihan Pelancongan) or Tourism Institute. Upon recognition, the next move of GTS is to register with JPK for SKM Tourist Guide course. However, DLanguage STUDIO has also registered Tourist Guide course with JPK. Therefore, if a Tourist Guide course is allowed to be carried out by 2 different entities, ie DLS conducting SKM, and GTS conducting the Tourist Guide license.. then there is no need for GTS to register with JPK after all.

GTS on the move

First project awarded to GTS by DLanguage STUDIO : Soft skill – English Communication Skill for primary students. This will be an annual activity for GTS from January to October.

GTS will be ready to apply for ILP (Institut Latihan Pelancongan) from the Ministry of Tourism in early March 2012, after which the application for Pusat Latihan SLDN via JPK to follow. Both applications are for Tourist Guide courses.

Rationale of GTS (Part 2)

The current scenario of Langkawi is that, most people who wish to get a blue or green badge Tourist Guide have to reach out to Penang or other parts of Malaysia. There had been a few colleges who either failed or decided to relocate to another place in the peninsular of Malaysia.

As we have observed such pattern, GEO Training STUDIO (GTS) does not have such ambitious plan to become a huge College of Tourism and Hospitality in the northern region. The name ‘STUDIO’ itself suggests that we are quite small in size.

However, we believe the current vocational system introduced by the government may solve the issue of large colleges collapsing in Langkawi. The system is called National Dual Training System. This system allows small operators (training centers) to work with established hotels and travel agents in order to reach the same goal of getting their students accredited. Students need only to spend 20-30% of their time at the training center, and 70-80% at the established companies.

By doing their practical immediately upon the commencement of a training program, the students are in fact working in the industry already. If the course is for 1 year, then they have already gained 1 year industrial experience.

The other advantage of this system is that, the students may be absorbed as a full-timer into the companies they are doing their practical at, and yet can still continue with their full-time studies.
